Educational summit focuses on substance abuse and behavioral health systems in region

Local health leaders are offering an educational forum on substance abuse and behavioral health systems in the region on April 4, 2019 from 10 a.m. to noon at the College of Central Florida Klein Conference Center in Ocala. Organizations and stakeholders impacted by the rise in substance abuse and behavioral health costs are encouraged to attend this free event.
 
Understanding the Community Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health Provider System in North Central Florida will examine current and emerging substance abuse and behavioral health treatment systems, which can be applied to strategies for tackling the opioid crisis in North Central Florida. An expert panel of CEOs from The Centers, Meridian Behavioral Healthcare, LifeStream Behavioral Center and Lutheran Services Florida will share insights and answer questions. The event will be of special interest to medical providers, emergency room personnel, law enforcement, members of the court system, providers of mental health and substance abuse treatment, homeless councils, child welfare administrators and local government.
 
“This educational forum will be an opportunity for attendees to learn about treatment methods, current trends and measuring success. We’ll discuss the steps Marion County can take to reduce drug dependency and overdose, including sources of funding available to us for this cause, and how other counties are tackling the opioid and substance abuse crisis,” said Curt Bromund, Executive Director of Marion County Hospital District and Munroe Regional Health System.
