It’s not too late to sign up for health insurance on the federal marketplace. Monday is the deadline for coverage to begin Jan. 1, and on Saturday, navigators will host an event to help people with last-minute efforts to get insurance.

The event, held by the North Central Florida Navigators, which is overseen by the WellFlorida Council in Gainesville, will be held at the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center, 1028 NE 14th St. in Gainesville, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

It is the one of many events scheduled this month and into next year. For a calendar of events, go to http://ncfnavigators.org/calendar-2/.

People can read about the exchanges and sign up for insurance at that time.

More than 2,000 people in North Central Florida have contacted navigators for information about insurance, and 200 have enrolled in plans, said Lauren Pollock, an associate planner at WellFlorida who is overseeing the navigators.

Pollock added that since the federal website started working better at the beginning of this month, more and more people have enrolled in insurance plans.

You can still enroll in insurance after Monday, but the coverage won’t start until sometime after Jan. 1.

Pollock said enrollment normally takes between 40 minutes and an hour and a half.
