WellFlorida’s Program Services

WellFlorida is home to 15 cause-driven local, state and federally funded programs and nonprofits. We provide professional services that help them provide for others, promote themselves, meet their goals and be economically sustainable. WellFlorida has demonstrated its fiscal acuity by passing ALL federally required audits since our beginnings in 1963. We are the foundation for the programs we serve, some of which we created and some of which we are contracted to manage. Below are just a few examples of how we work together to help build healthier communities in North Central Florida.

HIV/AIDS

HIV High Impact Prevention
WellFlorida’s HIV High Impact Prevention project began in 2013 as a grant awarded by the Florida Department of Health. The program aims to decrease the spread of HIV and link HIV-positive individuals to prevention and care services in North Central Florida.

Services WellFlorida Provides

  • Grant research, writing and management
  • Marketing materials and strategies
  • Outreach and education
  • HIV testing
  • Linkage and adherence counseling

Results
By using combinations of scientifically proven, cost-effective and scalable interventions targeted to the right populations in the right geographic areas—in our case, primarily men who have sex with men, communities of color and persons at risk for HIV in North Central Florida—this CDC approach of high impact prevention helps to reduce new HIV infections. The program has grown from three counties to 15 since it began, and has conducted over 2,000 HIV tests, distributed 400,000 condoms and linked approximately 300 people to care and/or provided adherence counseling.

MATERNAL AND INFANT HEALTH

Healthy Start and Our Other Home Visiting Programs
WellFlorida Council has been the home to two Healthy Start coalitions since 1992: Healthy Start of North Central Florida (12 counties) and Central Healthy Start (4 counties). In recent years, the coalitions have grown to include Parents as Teachers, Nurse-Family Partnership, T.E.A.M. Dad, G.R.O.W. Doula and NewboRN Home Visiting. The goals of these home visiting programs is to reduce infant mortality and the number of low birth weight babies, and improve participant’s health and developmental outcomes.

Services WellFlorida Provides

  • Quality assurance and management—WellFlorida monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of services provided to clients
  • Strategic planning—to improve pregnancy outcomes and enhance child development
  • Marketing materials and strategies
  • Needs assessments
  • Professional trainings
  • Community outreach and education
  • Allocation of funds received from the Florida Department of Health and the Agency for Health Care Administration

Results
On average, these programs combined provide over 180,000 services to more than 6,200 pregnant women and families annually, and screen 1,538 newborns in the region for health and developmental outcomes. Our home visiting programs provide critical support to hundreds of families across a 16-county area. According to the Child and Family Research Partnership, home visiting programs are successful because they provide the following benefits:

  • Moms and babies are healthier
  • Children are better prepared for school
  • Children are safer
  • Families are more self-sufficient
  • We save money

And More
In addition to our home visiting programs, our program Connect links pregnant women, caregivers and families with young children to needed services, such as education, support in childbirth, newborn care, parenting, child development, food and nutrition, mental health and financial self-sufficiency. On average, Connect provides services to 20,402 pregnant women and families annually in North Central Florida.
