According to the recently released WellFlorida Council North Central Florida Cancer Report 2016, North Central Florida has the highest cancer mortality rates in the state. Other than Alachua County, the home of the University of Florida, all the counties in the report are what were previously known as Rural Areas of Critical Economic Concern (RACEC) counties, challenged communities with persistent poverty and other chronic problems. The high cancer mortality rates are not a surprise.

North Central Florida has the highest cancer mortality rates in the state, according to the recently released North Central Florida Cancer Report 2016  by WellFlorida Council.

Health data for each county in North Central Florida and the collective region has recently been published on WellFlorida Council’s website. WellFlorida provides annual county health profiles to help residents and community leaders get a snapshot of the health status of each county and how it compares to the state. The data represents the health status of over 1.6 million North Central Florida residents. The profiles include data for a range of categories including access to healthcare, lifestyle, socioeconomics, and maternal and infant health.

WellFlorida, a regional health planning council, announced that its art director and communications manager Jill Dygert recently received a Gold award, which honors the nation’s best consumer health programs and materials. Dygert was recognized for a pregnancy and baby planner she designed and edited for Healthy Start and the Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Education Home Visiting Program during the 23rd Annual National Health Information Awards.

WellFlorida Council is conducting focus groups on marketing messages used in Marion County and how they contribute to the community’s health. All Marion County adult residents are invited.
