Introducing the Power Up League program, a competitive Esports league offered by WellFlorida Council and in partnership with Florida Gateway College and The Richardson Community Center. Power Up League is supported through funding by Florida Blue Foundation.

Exclusively for Columbia County residents ages 11-18, Power Up League promotes teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills through Esports, or competitive video gaming.

During practice sessions, students will also take part in the Botvin LifeSkills program, which teaches important life skills like making good decisions, handling stress, and resisting peer pressure. The Botvin Lifeskills Curriculum was developed by Dr. Gilbert J. Botvin, a leading expert in the field, and has been proven to help kids make better decisions, handle stress, reduce drug use and violence and is backed by over 30 years of research.

This curriculum will include topics such as:

  • Self-Awareness and Self-Esteem: Building confidence and a positive self-image.
  • Managing Emotions: Learning how to handle stress, anger, and other strong feelings.
  • Decision Making: Making healthy choices and avoiding risky behaviors.
  • Refusal Skills: How to say no to peer pressure and avoid harmful substances.
  • Communication Skills: How to talk and listen in difficult situations.
  • Healthy Relationships: Building good friendships with family and peers.
  • Coping Strategies: Learning how to deal with stress and other challenges.

Program activities will take place at the Richardson Community Center* and will consist of the following:

  • Weekly Practices: One practice session each week that lasts approximately 2 hours. Your child will work with Esports coaches from Florida Gateway College.
  • Weekly Competitions: Team game competitions every week.
  • Botvin LifeSkills Lessons: Weekly Botvin LifeSkills lessons during practice sessions.
  • End-of-Season Tournament: A final game tournament.
  • Games used in the league are all rated E for Everyone by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB).

*Power Up League may be offered in additional locations based on interest and need.
