Certificate of Need

Certificate of Need

The Certificate of Need (CON) is a regulatory process that requires certain healthcare providers to obtain state approval before offering new or expanded services. A CON is required by the Agency for HealthCare Administration (AHCA), for example, if a hospital wishes to increase the number of licensed beds or establish tertiary services, such as a neonatal intensive care unit. The CON process is intended to ensure that new services proposed by healthcare providers are needed within a particular region or community. WellFlorida provides services for the Florida CON program including facilitating public hearings on proposed CON projects, monitoring approved projects and filing status reports to AHCA.
