Prostate cancer screening recommendations focus of upcoming event

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (Feb. 22, 2012)—The North Central Florida Cancer Control Collaborative (NCFCCC) will be hosting its 2012 Kickoff on Wednesday, February 29. Guest speaker, Dr. Johannes Vieweg, MD, will present on “Prostate Cancer: Current Screening Policy Debates and Recommendations.” The event will be from 10 a.m. to noon at Haven Hospice E.T. York Care Center, 4200 NW 90th Blvd., Gainesville. CEUs are available for participation.

Dr. Vieweg of the University of Florida Department of Urology and Prostate Disease Center, will provide an overview on the detection and diagnosis of prostate cancer, controversies regarding screening for prostate cancer and a risk‐based treatment approach for patients diagnosed with the disease.

Event activities also include an overview of NCFCCC’s upcoming projects and free workshops, and information on a new program in Alachua County called Believe! Breast Cancer Prevention through Churches.

The public and healthcare, public health and community organizations are invited to attend. The purpose of NCFCCC is to improve access to cancer care and reduce the burden of cancer in North Central Florida. New members are welcome.
